Pre-Operative Instructions

At Heavenly Smiles in Lynnwood, we believe that a successful treatment begins with thorough preparation. Our pre-operative instructions are designed to ensure your procedure runs smoothly and safely, while keeping you comfortable and well-informed every step of the way.

Before Your Appointment

To help us deliver the best possible care, please follow these guidelines prior to your scheduled procedure:

  • Confirm Your Appointment

Verify your appointment details by contacting our office a day or two in advance. This ensures you have the correct time, location, and any specific instructions for your visit.
  • Health and Medication Updates

Inform us of any changes in your health or medications since your last visit. This is especially important if you are taking medications that could affect the procedure, such as blood thinners.
  • Fasting Requirements

If your treatment involves sedation or anesthesia, you may be instructed to refrain from eating or drinking for a certain period before your appointment. Please follow these fasting guidelines carefully to ensure your safety during the procedure.
  • Transportation Arrangements

For appointments involving sedation, please arrange for someone to drive you home afterward, as you might not be in a condition to drive safely.
  • Personal Documentation

Bring a list of your current medications, any relevant medical records, and details of previous dental treatments. This information helps us tailor your care to your unique needs.

On the Day of Your Appointment

  • Early Arrival

Arrive at least 15 minutes before your scheduled appointment. This extra time allows you to complete any necessary paperwork and settle into our comfortable office environment.
  • Final Check-In

Upon arrival, our team will review your pre-op checklist with you to ensure everything is in order. This helps us address any last-minute questions or concerns you may have.
  • Relax and Prepare

Our friendly staff is here to support you. Whether you’re undergoing a complex procedure or another treatment, knowing you are fully prepared can help ease any pre-procedure nerves.

Post-Operative Instructions

Our commitment to your care extends beyond the treatment room. We want your recovery from treatment to be as smooth and comfortable as possible. Please read and follow these post-operative instructions carefully to promote healing and prevent complications.

Managing Pain and Discomfort

  • Medication

Take any prescribed pain relievers or anti-inflammatory medications as directed. Over-the-counter pain medications may also help, but be sure to follow dosage instructions and consult with our team if you have any concerns.
  • Expected Sensations

It is normal to experience mild to moderate discomfort, sensitivity, or soreness in the treated area for a few days after your procedure. If the pain intensifies or does not improve, please contact our office.

Swelling and Bleeding

  • Ice Application

Some swelling may occur. To reduce swelling, apply an ice pack to the outside of your face near the treated area for 15 minutes on, then 15 minutes off, during the first 24 hours.
  • Bleeding Control

A small amount of bleeding or oozing is common. Bite gently on a gauze pad for 30 - 45 minutes following your treatment to help control bleeding. If bleeding persists beyond a few hours or becomes heavy, please notify us immediately.

Oral Hygiene

  • Brushing and Flossing

Maintain your regular oral hygiene routine, but be gentle around the treated area. Avoid vigorous brushing or flossing directly at the site for the first 24 hours.
  • Rinsing

If advised, you may gently rinse with a warm saltwater solution after the first 24 hours to help keep the area clean. Do not use mouthwash that contains alcohol unless specifically recommended by our team.

Diet and Activity

  • Eating

Stick to a soft diet for the first few days after your procedure. Avoid hard, crunchy, or sticky foods that could disturb the treated area. Also, steer clear of extremely hot or cold foods and beverages until the sensitivity subsides.
  • Activity

Limit strenuous physical activities for 24 to 48 hours post-treatment. Resting will help your body direct energy toward the healing process.

Follow-Up Care

  • Monitoring Your Recovery

Keep an eye on the treated area for signs of infection, such as increased pain, swelling, or a foul taste. Mild discomfort is normal, but significant changes should be reported.
  • Scheduled Appointments

Attend all scheduled follow-up appointments so we can assess your healing progress and address any concerns. Your feedback is important for ensuring a successful recovery.
